Rush Lies Again, Misdirects Outrage

Over at Crooks And Liars, there’s a piece that really can’t go without some comment. According to their transcript, Rush, apparently in some kind of drug-induced tirade, spouted the following:

Rush: “I got an email here. “(Uh) Rush, (uh) now that two of our own have been tortured and murdered by the terrorists in Iraq, will the Left say that they deserved it? I’m so sick of our cut-and-run liberals. Keep up your great work.” Bob C. from Roanoke, Virginia. “PS, I love the way you do the program on the Little Kim (?)” (laughs) I read…no I added that! He didn’t, he didn’t put that in there. (laughs) You know, it-it’s-I-uh…I gotta tell ya, I-I-I perused the liberal, kook blogs today, and they are happy that these two soldiers got tortured. They’re saying, “Good riddance. Hope Rumsfeld and whoever sleep well tonight.”

I’ve taken some time to go searching through a lot of liberal blogs, did some searching on Google, etc. and damned if I can’t find one site that says anything like this. I’m thinking if Rush is “funny” enough to make up the last part of that letter, what’s to stop him from making up the whole letter entirely? In fact, I think it won’t be long before we start seeing letters and phone calls from so-called “liberals” on FOX News shows and right-wing radio that say any manner of bad things just to give us all a bad name.

At the end of the day, I can’t believe that any liberal would say anything even remotely similar to “good riddance” when it comes to our troops in Iraq. Yeah, we all hate our troops so much that we want them to come home immediately. Terrible, right? How dare we have that much disdain for our troops!

What makes this all the more appalling is the fact that there is no outrage on the part of Rush over the fact that these two poor men — Kristian Menchaca, 23, of Houston and Thomas L. Tucker, 25, of Madras, Ore. — were, according to this story in the Washinton Post, left alone in an “insurgent hotbed” that was known as one of the most dangerous areas of Iraq with only one armored Humvee to guard them.

Where is the outrage over this? These men were brutally tortured and beheaded, and Rush is claiming that us liberals are saying, “good riddance?” Lies. Just pure lies. Lies and hatred. Sort of also refutes Ann Coulter’s claim that you never see conservatives using someone’s tragedy to further an agenda. So much seething hatred for liberals. It’s a wonder these people can sleep at night… Oh, I forgot… Some of them need lots and lots of drugs to sleep.

Even Bill Kristol, he of the extreme neo-con persuasion, recently noted that liberals are “less mean” than conservatives. Imagine that! A neo-con finally realizing what we liberals have known all along!

  1. I am so glad you wrote this. I have been listening to some Rush re-runs on late night weekend radio as well as Air America during the day to try and monitor is spin and lies. I have started hearing people call in, say they listen to Rush, but are liberal, then completely agree with him and throw in a jab or two at the Dems. I have also noticed an increase in listeners call in to Big Ed, say they are liberal, and give some oddball opinion that lines up with someone who left the channel on Fox and lost the remote.

Last weekend he brought up incorrect stats on the war, threw in some assumptions and came to the conclusion that is it safer to be American Military in Iraq than an average Joe in NYC, Chicago or Cleveland. Not only was he comparing incorrect numbers, but he was making invalid comparisons to the population. Which to me, cheapens every soldier who died.

I would also like to see your comparison or comments to Dubya and Hitler. Our history books don’t tell us how Hitler power grew, we mostly hear of the invasions and war. But I would guess it was with the same “lock step” government, taking rights away in increments and gaining power by spreading fear.

    Good work.

  2. It’s getting really bad, isn’t it? As if we didn’t already know to what depths the right-wing radio hatemongers and FOX News would stoop to deliver the story THEY want to deliver?

As for the Bush vs. Hitler comparison, If you’d like to write an article or comparison, I’d be happy to post it here. Personally though, I can’t really fully buy into that debate. The first reason is that I think when you bring up the name “Hitler,” it immediately turns off people’s ears on the other side of the aisle because they think you’re just being a ‘hysterical liberal.’ Therefore, discussing the two as mirrors of each other is counter-productive to the liberal agenda. Not only that, but I don’t think the comparison is really that accurate, as I’ll explain in a moment.

I totally know where you’re coming from though, and I truly believe George W. Bush is a war criminal of the highest order — just because he lives in the White House does not make him immune to the charges that should be levelled against him. However, there is the matter of the holocaust, a war crime so heinous that even Bush at his most evil could not match. I think that at first Bush believed that this Iraq thing would go quickly — that there would be no ‘aftermath’ and that he would go down in history as a liberator and installer of democracy. This just shows how misguided he and his advisors are and were. By not allowing any debate, they set themselves up for failure from the very start.

I am no fan of the man by any means, and I believe he is a criminal and should be charged with war crimes. But his is a combination of crime by ignorance of history, willful ignorance of facts, monetary greed and power intoxication. That is NOT to excuse him. Ignorance, as they say, is no excuse. But the difference here is that Hitler set out to destroy a whole entire race. I doubt very much that George W. Bush could, at his very worst, ever be that evil.
