Just Voted

Showed up to my polling place around noon with my 15-month-old son in tow and waited behind exactly one person. My district was light, but other districts at the same polling place were heavier than normal.

I proudly pulled the lever for Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and in a last minute decision decided to vote against the Republican incumbent for state senator, mostly due to his support of anti-choice legislation.

My son helped me pull the lever to open the curtains, and that was that. Tonight the wife and I pick up my stepson at the ferry (he’s currently away at college) and he and my wife will vote. Then it’s all eyes glued to MSNBC to check out the election results.

As nervous as I am, and as much as I feel the Republicans are always capable of putting a finger on the scale, I have a really good feeling about things.

They’ve had eight years (actually more, if you consider the loss of Congress in 1994), and look where we are today. The Republicans want to talk about Socialism? Bring it on. Which party has presided over the greatest government funding of public institutions in our lifetimes?

As Obama has said, we’re just on the right side of history this time.

Get out and VOTE everyone!
